Services

The support you need, and nothing more.

From bookkeeping and year-end filings to fundraising and capital strategy. I can take on the full package or fill a specific gap. Start by telling me what is most pressing right now.

Company setup in Japan

Many choices made at incorporation are costly to change later: whether to form a KK (kabushiki kaisha) or a GK (godo kaisha), how much capital to put in, when your fiscal year ends, how directors are paid, and which consumption tax elections to make. I help you get these right before you register.

  • Choosing between a KK, a GK or a branch office
  • Capital, fiscal year and director compensation
  • Tax notifications after incorporation, including approval for blue-form tax returns and consumption tax elections
  • Cash flow planning for your first year

Company registration is handled by a judicial scrivener (shiho-shoshi) and social insurance by a labor and social security attorney (sharoshi). I coordinate with them so that you know what needs to be filed, and by whom.

Business Manager visa: business plan review

Since the rules changed in October 2025, a business plan submitted for the Business Manager (keiei-kanri) visa must be reviewed by a certified SME management consultant, a CPA or a certified tax accountant. As a CPA and tax accountant, I can review your plan and check that the figures are consistent with how the business will actually run.

The visa application itself is prepared by you or a licensed immigration specialist (gyoseishoshi). I do not prepare immigration documents, but I am happy to work alongside your specialist.

Tax and accounting for companies in Japan

I work with Japanese companies owned from overseas and with Japanese branches of foreign companies. I review your figures every month and flag anything that needs attention, so that year-end holds no surprises.

  • Monthly review of your books, with regular meetings as agreed
  • Corporate tax, consumption tax and local tax returns
  • Year-end payroll adjustment and statutory reports
  • Tax questions during the year, by email or chat
  • Support during tax audits (attendance quoted separately)

Bookkeeping

I work with cloud accounting software such as freee and Money Forward. I can take bookkeeping off your hands entirely, or set up a process your own team can run. If you already use accounting software, I will pick up from where you are.

Financial due diligence, valuation and IPO readiness

Buying or selling a company, valuing shares for a transaction or a succession, or building the controls you need to go public. Having worked at both a Big Four audit firm and in financial advisory, I know what auditors and investors will look for, and I prepare you for it.

I also support listings outside Japan. In Melbourne I helped Japanese companies with accounting, tax and their local operations, so I know from practice what becomes an issue when the rules are different. Cross-border deals and overseas expansion are welcome.

Personal income tax returns

I prepare annual income tax returns (kakutei shinkoku) for individuals living in Japan.

  • Employees with income beyond their salary
  • Freelancers and sole proprietors
  • Residents with income or assets outside Japan, including the report of foreign assets
  • The year you arrive in or leave Japan
  • Deductions such as the housing loan credit and medical expenses

One-off consultations

You do not need an ongoing contract. A single year-end filing, a single tax return, or a second opinion on advice you have already received are all welcome.

Who you contract with

Tax work, such as tax returns and tax advisory, is contracted with Haruki Yokoyama Tax Accountant Office. Consulting work, such as due diligence, valuation and IPO support, is contracted with Yokoyama Associates Co., Ltd.

Fees are quoted individually. After the free initial consultation, I will send you a written quote.
